Privacy Policy

HazeMY is committed to strict data privacy, minimal data retention, and transparency in accordance with the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA).

Zero Tracking

We do not track your real-world identity, profile your browsing habits, or sell advertising data to third-party brokers.

Local Storage

Commute presets and cookie preferences remain stored locally on your device in your browser’s private storage.

Public Open Data

All environmental readings stem from public government APIs (DOE, data.gov.my) and partner research networks.

1. Information We Collect

HazeMY operates under a principle of strict data minimization:

  • Non-Personal Technical Logs: Standard HTTP request data (IP addresses, user agent, requested endpoints, timestamp) processed by edge servers for load balancing, DDoS mitigation, and system health. These logs are rotated and anonymized.
  • Voluntary Feedback & Crowdsource Reports: If you submit an observational haze report or bug feedback, we retain only the details you explicitly provide (station note, estimated visibility, general timestamp). No phone numbers or IC numbers are collected.
  • Browser Geolocation: If you click “Find Nearest Station”, your browser requests one-time geographic coordinates. Coordinates are processed client-side to compute distance to Malaysian monitoring stations and are never persisted to a remote user database.

2. Cookies and Local Client Storage

We use browser storage strictly for functional and user preference purposes:

  • Essential Storage: Used to remember your cookie consent preferences (hazemy_cookie_consent) and user theme preferences.
  • Commute Route Presets: Favorite departure points and transit modes entered on the Smart Commute page are stored on your local browser cache. They never leave your device.

3. Third-Party Services and API Proxies

To safeguard API security and maintain fast page loads, all upstream environmental queries (including international atmospheric observation grids, satellite thermal monitors, and numerical weather model networks) are securely requested through our server-side backend cache. Your browser does not directly communicate with or reveal your IP address to upstream telemetry networks.

4. Malaysian PDPA 2010 Compliance & User Rights

Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia), you have the right to request access to or correction of any personal data we hold about you. Because HazeMY does not maintain user accounts or persistent identity registries, we typically do not hold personal identification records. For inquiries, reach out via our repository contact or administrative contact.

5. Contact and Responsible Disclosure

For questions regarding this privacy policy or our data handling practices, please consult our Methodology & Architecture documentation or inspect our terms at Terms & Conditions.
